How would you describe the Gravity 180 sound?
Timeless Pop/R&B laced with Jazz and Latin overtones and soulful vocals.
What were your main goals with this new album?
To translate our stage performance to the studio with the best production possible. Lifting each song to its ultimate potential while keeping the Gravity 180 thread running through the entire project.
What was it like to collaborate with guitarist Nils on this project?
He’s the consummate professional with great instincts and a good sense of detail. His electric guitar work put the fire and spice in all the right places in addition to bringing the best out of all of us. It helped a great deal as well to have co-producer Eddie Brown’s oversight and songwriting connection with the group.
In what direction would you like to see the Smooth Jazz format head moving forward?
Adding more new vocal projects rather than just relying on oldies for the vocal “slots”.
What do you tell aspiring artists and bands who want to know how to break into the music business?
Play as often as possible wherever and whenever. Have as small a nucleus as possible and add players as needed. Think of what your strengths are and use the current technology and social networking sites to take advantage of them.
When you’re not involved in music, what hobbies or passions take up your free time?
Travel, hiking – CJ: Travel, reading and hanging with family – OB: Chess, stimulating conversation and meditation.
