What's your plan for Smooth Jazz with your music? We think you may be looking to shake things up a bit, yes?
I'm not here with any sort of agenda or plan to do anything to smooth jazz, but I guess when you listen to Red Vinyl you'll hear smooth jazz, but at the same time you'll notice a difference in the playing style and the production. It's a product of a new generation of jazz musician. It's a young record from a young artist, it's honest and therefore unique, which is something I believe all styles of music need to keep progressing and moving forward.
I'm not so sure I have a "plan" per-se for Smooth Jazz regarding my music, but I suppose my message that I'm inadvertently sending through Red Vinyl is this: The younger generation of jazzers are beginning to emerge and we are here to push the music forward, break the mold and show our stuff...and we'd rather walk the stairs then ride the elevator...and we hate turtlenecks.
How do you describe your music?
My music is my personality in musical form. Simple, rhythmic, kind of dirty minded, silly yet serious, fun and energetic. It makes my friends laugh and my mom proud.
Is there a song you wish you would have written?
"Thriller" by Michael Jackson - I'd be frickin' rich!!
What's on your iPod?
Foreigner, Journey, Eminem, Ozomatli, Linkin Park, Incubus, Dr. Dre and Grover Washington Jr.
Finish this sentence: I don't like to go a day without ___________.
Daydreaming.
What's your favorite place to chill?
In the red vinyl seats of my 1962 Chevy Nova Convertible, cruising through Hermosa beach with the top down and the heater on.
